I enjoyed a day or two in York last week just to get away from everything… taking my lovely wife Nicola too.
We made a trip of it by going up first class on the train, and I used a free night on Premier Inn to book the room (good job too, as it was York Races and the hotel was £151.. more than most London Prem Inns!).
We had a good day, wondering around the tight streets and looking at the many unique shops. I kept out of the specialist bottle shop they have there – but it did look good with some interesting beers on display (including some rare American ales).
We did visit the York Tap though, completing my ‘set’ (Euston, Sheffield, and York Taps.. all three sister pubs). In fact there are four..and we went in the 4th too.. Pivni. Only had a beer in each – didn’t go mad!
There was a great little ‘crafts’ market in the centre of town, and we bought some art prints from a talented photographer (who then processes the prints to give them a great ‘fantasy’ feel).
Always great to go to York – it’s a fantastic town – probably 2nd favourite place to live after Oxford for us. Only 1 hour 10 mins or so on the train from Peterborough, so silly not to pop up there now and then in the future.
